Digiscoping with Leica 77APO questions (1 Viewer)

Hello. I have the straight body version of the Leica scope and a 20-60x eyepiece. I see there is a new adapter for this to mount a P&S camera to it (and even a camera phone?!?) Has anyone seen this adapter for sale anywhere? I've searched for this and only found one place that had it at one point and it is sold out. Does the adapter work with this zoom eyepiece? I have a DSLR (Canon 350D with 400mm 5.6L lens) and I love this setup, but sometimes some birds are still too far (even with a 1.4 teleconverter). I guess it's not possible to set a DSLR up to a spotting scope is it? Basically I'm quite clueless about the whole setup and P&S cameras. If there are any other adapters that you could recommend for this scope with 20-60x eyepiece, I would gladly take suggestions as the Leica adapter will likely be needlessly expensive. I'll have to do some research on point and shoot cameras too. Thanks. BC

Yes the Leica adapter does work with the zoom eyepeice (it also works with the 20x and 32x, but not with the 40x). It's a decent adapter, but it's a good deal more expensive than some of the universal adpaters. It works well with a lot of compact cameras, but would would need to check before getting a camera. I would think that any Leica dealer should be abel to get this for you even if they don't stock it.

As for dslrs... Leica do make an adapter that connects a dslr directly to the scope (no eyepiece of camera lens), the scope basically becomes an 800mm f11 manual focus lens. I have used this adapter but found the f11 very limiting, it only worked well in very good light. The other option is to buy the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens andthen use your dslr to digiscope through the eyepeice. this can work quite well, though the whole set up becomes quite back heavy. It can be done with the zoom eyepeice, but works batter with the 20x or 32x.

Hello, I have the Leica Digilux 2 adapter, which also has an attachment fitted by SRB-Griturn, which I can fit a cable release bracket to.
Also a Leica D-Lux 2 camera and a 26x/32x fixed eyepiece.
Thinking at some stage of selling these, but as yet not official on Birdforum classifieds.
The previous threads on here by nharrier and albertclyde prompted me to make you aware of a possible sale!!!
