Dipping my toes into videoing (1 Viewer)

Over the weekend I've been taking some short little videos and they're now sitting on my computer in the Video folder.

I can't see any option to edit them on Paint.net (the programme I use for stills). Exploring the options in Media Player, there's an editing app called Clipchamp, which seemed to have an option to deal with sound, but no instructions what to do and whatever I tried I couldn't get rid of some unwanted noise. So without going further into it, don't think that programme will suit me (I need my hand held LOL).

Anyone know of an easy to use, free video-editing programme?

Video editing software is a mine field! Microsoft used to include a simple video editing program as part of Windows but they have discontinued it if favour of Clipchamp, which is a dogs breakfast of a program!

I have yet to find a simple video editor, every one I try just gets more complicated with every version.

I hope someone else can help.

Hi Delia, I've been using CapCut for a while now, trial and error for me as ever but I got used to it and like it now. I never use the Stabilise function because I often have a logo and it crops it out for some odd reason.

Thanks Mono and Scoz.

Eventually got Capcut downloaded... why on earth do they want you to sign in via Facebook or Google? Did get round that eventually.

I'll never remember my username LOL - LastPass to the rescue. Will just have to see how I get on with it now.

Openshot video editor seems really good, and free.
Quite easy to cut, merge clips, adjust sound, add transitions, slow motion.

It even has a function to scale the video, effectively zooming in slightly.

Slow motion, although you lose the original sound, can be good to reduce juddery camera movement. Or if you only managed a couple of seconds decent quality, you can stretch it out and it looks arty at the same time!

Then, when you are finished editing, you can export the video to a range of formats depending on your use. I go for "YouTube 4k"

Capcut has many templates. Very accessible to beginners
Thanks Antony. I've gone in and looked at the templates but nothing there seems remotely related to what I want, I just wouldn't know where to start with them I'm afraid.

I'd tried editing a video, and it got lost somewhere, so I started again. Anyway got it now in recent drafts and want to cut out a few frames at the beginning and end where camera is all over the place and can't see any icon for editing!

So gave up.

Thanks Bogbean. I'll download it and have a play later.

I really only want to do simple stuff (to me anyway). Cut out the rubbish bits and add some text like my name, the name of the subject and where/when it was taken. Presume it's best to put all that at the beginning.

Grrr.... now I've got a McAfee ad blocking my screen having downloaded Openshot.

I don't want McAfee. Hope I've not made any spelling errors here, as I can't see what I'm typing!

OK got rid of that pop up, now and also switched to a different browser. What a pain McAfee is!!

I don't have a YouTube account, but may try Instagrame, where I do. Only uploaded stills there so far, but did find that site frustrating at times.

Davinci Resolve can be a great help for you. It offers a media asset library for organizing your files by name, tags, and search keywords. You can set up projects and use a Universal folder for easy access to repeated items like sound effects, music, and B-roll.

It's free for HD resolution, user-friendly, and there are plenty of YouTubers who teach how to use it from the very beginning. Whether you're a hobbyist or a professional, it's a powerful program that may require a good computer setup with a GPU, CPU, and SSD disk for fast media read and write speeds.

In short, Davinci Resolve is easy to use and well-organized.

Thanks very much Vu Pham , I'll look into it when I get home.

I took another short video yesterday during a wander around my brother's area of South Wales.
