Hey all,

My Grandparents just got back from their trip to Myrtle Beach they take every Thanksgiving. They have a condo down there that sits on a marsh. Everytime you go down there you are guaranteed to see egrets/herons/ etc but sadly the last time I was down there i wasn't into birding yet so I am anxiously awaiting this coming summer when I get to go down (also my aunt's house in CA I will be visiting too) Anyways....

I told them to take pictures and she mostly photographed cardinals but she got this one picture of egrets/herons I think, can you tell at all from the picture what species they could be, sorry for the quality but they are from far away she said and through a window..

Thanks for any help offered,
Matt

P.S. Picture 1 is recent, 2,3, and 4 I believe to be older pictures and picc four I think is a GBH.

1: can't tell
2:looks like cattle egrets in the background. If so the ones at the front are snowy, or all are Great White
3.Great white egret/ 'Great white heron' morph of great blue
$4blue heron

Hi Matt,
I think the dark bird in photo 2 is a Black-necked Stilt. Photo 3 is a Great Egret. (Great White Heron is only found in southern Florida and it would have a larger bill and paler legs). Photo 4 is a Great Blue Heron. I would only be guessing on the others.

It does look as though your grandparents have quite a nice view though!

Thanks for our attempts,

I pretty much knew that from the pictures there would probably be no chance at positive ID's although you guys managed to do well.

Jim, I didn't think anybody would even be able to guess at the blob in picture two. And yes they do have a nice view and I can't wait to go down hopfully a couple times this summer, I have to convince them not to sell it.

Well, it isn't exactly a seller's market down here right now so perhaps they'll hold on to it.
