Good Birding Spots in Porto (1 Viewer)

In 2 weeks I will be in Porto in Portugal and wondered if there are good spots for birds ? I know there’s The Douro Estuary Nature Reserve but wondered if there is anywhere else.

I don't know Porto myself, but urban parks are always worth a look, especially at this time of year. Pied flycatchers migrate in good numbers through Portugal, and there are a number of current records on eBird for sites such as Parque da Cidade do Porto - see this eBird list: https://ebird.org/checklist/S194427098
You'll note from that list that you stand a good chance of seeing Black Redstart and Firecrest too, which I guess will both be resident up in Porto.

Aveiro might be worth a trip out for you. It’s only an hour south by train from Campanha station and has a few birding spots around the marina and salt pans, within a short-ish walk of the station. It’s also a great day out even without the birding.

How did your Porto trip go Euan? Interested to hear where you went and what you saw - one day I'll get round to going up to northern Portugal myself!

Our son lives in Matosinhos which is just along the coast from Porto. He has some very good birds regularly in the park that flanks the coast.
