gyrfalcon or peregrine (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

Found this 1cy bird in the south of Norway. In the field it looked heavy in flight and "felt" like a gyrfalcon, but seeing the photos gives me a pause. Is this just a 1cy peregrine (the more common of the two here)?

strong facial pattern suggests peregrine to me

100% in the Juv Gyrfalcon camp. The face, colour, build. All point to Gyr fir me.

Plus kf you look at the feet of your bird, you can just see a blueish grey toe. That's Juv Gyr Falcon as Peregrines are distinct yellow.

Despite my inital feeling that it was a 1cy gyrfalcon, I agreed with Prestdj that the mustache and facepattern looked more peregrine. However, since you guys (and a few others) have all agreed on Gyr, I'm good with that.

Well, a) they/we haven't, and b) could those who have given an ID but haven't given their reasons give them? Ta.

Gyr for me. The wing shape in the flight pic is wrong for Peregrine, and the facial stripe strikes me as too narrow for peregrine.
