I'm interested to know if anyone has birded here recently. There seems to have been a dearth of reports since covid. Frank Moffatt's 2019 report is excellent but I'd like to know what people's experiences have been since then. I'm considering an autumn trip either this year or next. Would anyone suggest combining it with Beidaihe or stick with one or the other?

Myself,and several people I know,have tried to contact Jean Wang since covid lock downs without success. I have heard second hand that Happy Island is no longer open to foreign visitors. I would love to go back, but it appears it is not an option at the moment. ☹️

I don't seem to be able to make contact myself. Hmm, I'll write to Frank Moffatt and see what he knows (no email address on his report but a home address ... old skool, the way I like it). Thanks.

It was Frank who told me Happy Island was no longer open to foreigners, I think he had spoken to Paul Holt.

Is it just Happy Island or the general area? We'd work Beidaihe instead or find another likely hotspot (though the latter may be just as problematic).
