Hawk-Eagles in the Philippines (1 Viewer)

Hello Birdforum

Does anyone have some first hand or newly published information regarding Pinsker's Hawk-Eagle versus Philippine Hawk-Eagle on Mindoro? Clements, H&M, BLI, Peregrine Fund and IOC (yikes!) are vague or contradictory.

Thanks,
Sally

To my knowledge, the last published info is:
Gamauf, A. et al., 2005. Species or subspecies? The dilemma of taxonomic ranking of some South-East Asian hawk-eagles (genus Spizaetus). Bird Conserv. Internat. 15: 99-117.
The map clearly shows that none of them are on Mindoro. Are there hawk-eagles on Mindoro ? Could they be limnaeetus ?

Nothing new Sally, but Ferguson-Lees & Christie 2001 (Raptors of the World) gives:
  • S. p. philippensis (Luzon south to Mindoro).
  • S. p. pinskeri (southern islands of Mindanao, Samar and Negros, presumably also Bohol and perhaps Panay).
Ref. Gamauf, Preleuthner & Pinsker 1998. Distribution and field identification of Philippine birds of prey: 1. Philippine Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus philippensis) and Changeable Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus cirrhatus). Forktail 14: 1-11. [pdf]
