Er, aren't you being a bit of a bully yourself replying with this judgemental comment in a thread in which the poster's obviously feeling quite emotional? I don't share his sentiments myself, but there's no need for your comment in my not very humble opinion.

Well i waited a decent period to post my thoughts on this tv celebrity, and as far as im aware the original poster is allowed to express his opinion on him & im allowed mine , i dont have a problem with that , but some seem to , my post had nothing to do with the orinal posters thoughts etc , i was just rather shocked to find that this person had supporters , who are also nature/wildlife lovers ?
A bit like , liking bullfighters & old time circus lion tamers , as those were the things that came into my mind , when watching that person on tv back in the day , couldnt really believe it then or now that it was anything to do with the "animals" or there welfare , it was about putting on a show at the expense of the animals.
Please post back and tell me he was the greatest person to wildlife that ever walked this earth & that anyone who didnt like him , couldnt be a animal/wildlife lover.
And i will respect your opinion , thats how you saw him , so please respect mine , as thats how i saw him.
May he rest in peace & so can a few more animals now.

I wouldn't class my self as a fan of his - noting that I didnt watch his tv shows. But what I do know is that he did care about the wildlife of his native country.

i am going to generalise here (my apologies to non-stereotypical Aussies) - Aussie males are very macho but even they were sad to see him past away because he was one of them showing them something amazing about there country, which if the aussie equivelent of Bill Oddie/Attenbrough had done then they would have just laughed at it and not watched. He took something he cared passionatly about to a group of people who were proud of their country but that didn't include the croc's etc

Yes his methods were unorthidox but if they got the people of Austrailia thinkin then is that not the greatest result? Did he not save large numbers of animals which could have been killed?

Yes question his method's but not his passion for the animals of his country!

This issue was covered at the time of Steves death on BF and I expect the thread can be easily found. Must say the guys style and television appearances never appealed to me, but I do know several people with a love of wildlife as great, or even perhaps greater than my own, who enjoyed his programmes and liked the guy and I would never condemn them for that.

The following site may offer some insight as to the work Steve has done over the years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Irwin Yeah some of his methods have to be questioned, but to write a guy with his interests in conservation and his ability to inspire others off as a bully, is in my mind rather harsh as has already been mentioned.

Cheers

Hi , well i didnt really go looking to post this , so i wouldnt have known that there was a thread covering it , but also i would never post a negative comment on anyone who had just died , hence my post being rather late & not current.

But i will end with this quote about his memorial , i think it says it all , what he was & what he all was about.

""The memorial service was held in the "Crocoseum" at Australia Zoo""

I had no intention of suggesting your post was irrelevent because the issue had been discussed. I simply meant that you and others may like to find it and read it. I hope more will read the link I give too!

Not sure I understand the point your making in your last sentance.

Crocoseum = crocodile Colosseum
Colosseum
The Colosseum or Coliseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is a giant amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome. Originally capable of seating 45,000-50,000 spectators, it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles.
Gladiatorial
Gladiators (Latin gladiatōrēs, "swordsmen" or "one who uses a sword", from gladius "sword") were professional fighters in ancient Rome who fought against each other, wild animals, and condemned criminals, sometimes to the death, for the entertainment of spectators.
Zoo
A zoological garden, zoological park, or zoo is an institution where mainly wild and exotic animals are restricted within enclosures, bred and displayed to the public.

Thank you, but I don't need a history or latin lesson from you Can't help feeling you could have put a very simple explanation to your sentance without going into such detail. Pleased to see you know your history though. Very good. I could go onto tell you at some lengh that whilst I don't much like zoos, or gladiators for that matter, (BTW I have visted the colosseum on a couple of occasions and know a good deal about its history) some have done and do some very good educational and conservation work so I whilst I think I see the point your tying to make IMO you have not made it very well with the sentance I referred to.

Anyway I guess you want the last word so feel free to have it as I have nothing more to say really.

Cheers

Well im sorry i replied to your post , but you said you didnt understand my last sentance , so i tried to explain it , by the break down of the made up word "Crocoseum" , but i seemed to have insulted your intelligence by doing so, for which i apologise , that wasnt my intent , but it is a very good word to use , to explain its intended use.

"seum" is also the last letters of mu"seum" got any opinions on them?

not everyone is going to agree with everyone elses methods but lets agree he raised the awareness of conservation issues within Australia and that can only be a good thing.
