On March 16, 2025, A Carolina wren laid her fifth egg and has been sitting on them since.
I have a question I hope you can help me with… I live in an apartment complex on the 4th floor. My concern is when they come out of the nest, I’m fearful that they will die when they hit the concrete floor?? Should I be worried or is there anything that I could do to prevent a bad outcome?

Hi Chef BB, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. There isn’t really much you can do. If they manage to stay on the 4th floor until fledged I think they will be fine (I am no expert).

Thank you Lisa. The best thing to do is pray that God will gently give them a soft landing 🙏🏻
I have gotten attached to “Grace” as I call the momma bird, because about a week ago, she flew into my apartment when I opened the door, and she landed on my ceiling fan in the bedroom, but had left a little trail of bird poopy on my wall, under a sign written in metal that says
“Amazing Grace”❣️

Welcome to Birdforum. When they fledge, they will fly, they won’t drop to the floor.

Hi Chef and a warm welcome from me too. Don't worry, birds have this scenario well covered. If they don't actually fly to the nearest tree, or climb out onto a branch, they will parachute down to the ground. The biggest danger for them then is cats. But the parents should be nearby and will usher them to a safer place.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Thank you for posting your pictures.
You’re welcome… Grace is staying on her nest. yesterday, I noticed Dadi bringing her food. If it’s 12 to 14 days for Carolina Rens, after the last egg laid then potentially hatching the 28th through the 31st.
I hope it’s not gonna be on April fools Day’! Lol

Chef BB, you are so fortunate to have that nest right on your door! Thanks for posting the photos. Enjoy your time with the wrens! I had wrens breed in my yard once - the fledglings were adorable.
