Observing birds in their natural habitat. It combines my love of nature and my love for birds. I now have the wherewithal to pursue these two activities fulltime, so I decided to follow the birds. First stop, the coastal bend of Texas where I spent the last 18 months. I expected to learn shorebirds but became captivated by the birds and ponds in the oak motte habitat of Ingleside TX with excursions to the coast and other parts of the state. In June I plan to head north and relocate in southern Utah, central Washington, northern Idaho, or wherever I find resonance. I set my sails and the wind carries me to my destination. I joined this site to determine the identity of a red-tail hawk I saw in Sinton TX–a pale RTHA with a belly band and a barred tail (not the traditional red one). I discovered much more. For example, I had no idea there were many hybrids and intergrades. It is astonishing and intimidating which makes birding a lifelong avocation. I use my iphone in the field now bc I always have it with me, but I would like to get an audio recorder and camera with telephoto lens to record field data. Any suggestions?
