Hi all,
This might not be the right thread for this post, please move if that is the case.
Could anyone advise what bird my below picture is? And also any advice what could be wrong with him/her?
They are eating ok but look to have a damaged foot. Not flying just hopping on one foot. Also seems to be missing tail feather. When hopping falls to one side and puts its wing out. Could this be a broken wing? Or balance because of the tail feather?
I have no clue. Do tail feather grow back?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Gem and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

That is a Blackbird you have there. It is moulting, so yes, the tail feathers will grow back. They also do droop their wings, when sitting around - it's a good ID pointer.

Birds do seem to manage very well with a damaged foot or leg, so don't worry too much.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Oh fingers crossed they will be ok. They had been on the ground eating for the last few hours. I put seed and water out close by. And wet the ground for down worms to come up. Which they did.
But miraculously hopped using garden ornaments as perches and is on the shed roof. Hopefully if the cats in the street stay away, this little one will be ok.
How long does moult last? Before tail feathers come back?
Thanks
