Hi, I live in Invergowrie, Scotland. I have a flat with front garden, with feeders with sunflower seeds, and suet, and made a pond. (1 Viewer)

I live in a flat with an upstairs neighbour. I own the front garden, and have suet and seed feeders. To be fair, pigeons line up on the upstairs roof, but my neighbour has hung a metre-long shiny streamer out of her window, which has deterred most of the goldfinches and starlings - the latter being red-listed for population decline. She is thought of locally as a difficult person. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Donald and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Neighbour difficulties are always difficult. If you only have tube-type feeders out, this wouldn't attract pigeons and gulls (which can also be an issue). Have a chat with your local councillor (I find mine very helpful in giving advice) as they will know the local bye-laws etc. It may be that the shiny streamer could be regarded as a nuisance (does it blow across your windows causing distraction etc).

All things Scottish can be found here. Also, keep an eye on threads titled something like Scottish Bashes; we try to meet up occasionally and they're always great fun. You'd be most welcome to join us on another if you can manage.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi Donald

If you can reach the 'streamer', cut it off and put it in her letterbox. If she asks just say that it must have 'broke off' and did she want it back?
Any other alternative is probably illegal in Scotland as it is in England.

regards
Merlin

Thanks Merlin, good idea but I'd need a trampoline!
