Hi I'm new to birding, I live in mid Cornwall, I have been playing with the Merlin app for about a week and I'm surprised at how many songs I can already identify now. I have no concept of what is rare but my favourite 5 finds of my first week are a great spotted woodpecker, Green woodpeckers, a kingfisher, tawny owls (They are nesting at bottom of my garden but I haven't heard the baby in a few nights so I guess it's fledged) and grasshopper warblers which the Merlin app refused to hear but I'm counting it because the sound was so obvious and coming from everywhere at breney common. I'm up to 38 different birds so far.

Hi Cornish Mouse and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see around you.
