Saw this guy in Stanley park in mid august. don't have any details beyond what you can see in the photo.

the goldeneye was seen last week in Kananaskis country, Alberta. barrows or common?

Hummingbird is tricky but I think it has to be ruby-throated. The other contender is of course Anna's.

EDIT: I agree now it is Anna's.

Juvenile goldeneyes are tough but if had to plump for one or the other I'd go for Common on the basis of head shape and the bill.
 
Ruby-throated would be ultra rare in Vancouver. I don't see a problem with Anna's.

Huh interesting. I thought it was common over most of BC but now I think about it I guess it wouldn't be. I thought Anna's was the rare one except for the far south, but shows how much I know about BC.

The gorget colour is wrong for ruby-throated too, but was sure it had an Archilochus vibe about it. Ah well. But I should know better then to ID on location anyway.
