Wondered what these were and when they were made? Really like the view. Collimation tips welcome. 20150218_094542-1.jpg

Since I like these, what others would you recommend? How far from the Leica Ultravid 8x20 are these?

Also curious why they are harder to get to my eyes than 7x50's?

Think they're reverse porros. Bought mine new in the 70's for $59.........probably older than your pair but I believe Nikon produced them for quite awhile. Looks like yours is missing eye cups unless you've disassembled them. If so, a couple of O rings might work.......mine never had much ER. I'm sure others here will have more information for you.

These look like an early version of the Nikon Venturer reverse porros.
They were highly rated by Consumers Report sometime in the 1980s.
Mine drowned during a trip to Oregon, but dried out eventually and again worked just fine.
Collimating them is beyond my pay grade, but Bill Cook (WJC on this Forum) could surely give you helpful advice.

I believe the 7x20 bins were produced as a successor the 7x21 "Look" series of reverse porro bins that caruh has. The "Look" bins were produced in 3 sizes from the mid 1960's up through the late 1970's. I would guess early 1980's for the 7x20. I would not spend much money fixing it up. If it needs new eye cups and collimation is out just buy another in better condition.
