There is a chance that I might be in the area on Saturday to try for Rossi. It appears the high tide will be about 10am. Does anyone know how much before high tide Rossi is likely to show?

High tide has never seemed to matter for me. I have just found it flying around with other gulls between the casino and the rossi's ice cream parlour. It's reasonably obvious in flight.

I guess given that I have seen it flying around above the ground, high tide might be best so that it has nowhere else to go.

Can't say I've ever seen Rossi or any other bird flying elsewhere... ;)

Sarcasm aside, I've also seen this bird at all states of the tide. Earlier this year, I got good views at low tide. You have to work a bit harder to find him, but that's half the fun! I'm not really sure that high tide helps - I would've though most of the gulls roost up then, potentially out of view on roofs etc...

Thanks guys. The weekend is in a bit of doubt at the moment but hopefully I will be down that way, if not this week then in the next couple of weeks so the info given is useful to know.

On the two occasions I have seen said gull the tide was fairly low and we had to wait a while but it eventually showed well. When we saw it in december we couldn't see it at first but once I started throwing bits of my sandwich around it suddenly materialised.

We have decided to go there first and should arrive about 07:30 to 8am. I think we will have to take some bread with us by all accounts. My Mrs works at Asda and sometimes gets loves of bread for 10p. I will have to see if she can get us a loaf or two for us to take down.
