I will be in Tokyo and Kyoto the last week of April. Will it be too late to see the common kingfisher? It's a lifer for me.

Will also take any recommendations on locations to go birding, that might not be listed on ebird hotspots.

Best,

Cyn

I am a local birder in Tokyo, and I can say that at least in my area, Common Kingfishers are year-round birds. They will be breeding, so it may be a little difficult to see them. Try Kasai Rinkai Park, Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park, Arisugawa Park, or any other known spot for them. They can be anywhere in river systems, but it really depends on your luck as well. Overall, they are considered pretty common, but photographers love them and so they will still be treated as star birds. Hope you enjoy your trip!!
