Hi guys,

Newish birder here, been interested in birds for a couple of years but got more serious late last year with a purchase of a Sony RX10 mark IV. I've since upgraded to a Canon with loads of lenses and am amassing a nice haul of pics!

I will have 9 full days in the Isle of Skye from next week and a car to get from A to B. Initially it was intended to be a hiking trip but I am now combining it with birding. Any recommendations of areas to visit / excursions to go on / particular species that are more common up there would be most welcome!

As ever I would always recommend the 'Where to watch birds in Scotland' app.

In addition to the SOC Where To Watch app, I'd recommend the Skye Birds website which gives up to date sightings- and a map.

I'd also recommend the Explore Data function on Birdtrack.

Hope this helps.

I've never been, but I am informed that the Glenelg-Skye ferry crossing is a great place for close encounters with W-T Eagles. I believe that high tide is the optimum time to be there for the eagles.

I've only shot through on the way to the ferry, but have had overnight stops and did a bit of a reccy round. A visit to the Talisker distillery area could be good, also round the ferry harbour, plenty around at low tide.
