Is this a cisticola? Is it possible to narrow it down to species?

Yes, it's a Cisticola. It looks fine for Rattling, which is by far the most common species in this habitat, and you surely have more and better photos of this species. Of course the photos are too distant to be absolutely sure, but if you wanted it to be something more unusual, then you would need better
photos which showed some other distinctive feature.

Off-topic question: my wife and I are hoping to be able to visit Africa again in the next year, not having been since Corona. Visiting Kenya again is one target. In the news there have been various reports of drought in some parts of the country and flooding in others, both affecting agriculture in a negative way. Did you have any logistical problems as a result of weather or related factors, or did your trip run smoothly? Thanks for any information.

Thanks!
My trip ran smoothly, altough it rained quied a lot...Unusually a lot. While it was supposed to affect our trip (fewer animals) we saw more animals than anyone expected.
