Kissimmee in November (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I'm going to Kissimmee with family in early November - any info on best bird spots around the area would be appreciated. Are there any Burrowing Owl spots in the area? Thank you.

I don't know if you will have access to a car or how far you are willing to travel but a couple of years ago I stayed in Kissimmee in August & went to the following sites:

Sunset Ranch Trail; Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area; Joe Overstreet Road / Landing; East Lake Toho; Moss Park; Split Oak Mitigation Park; Orlando Wetlands Park; Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area; Parish Park - Titusville; Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge; Canaveral National Seashore; Kissimmee Prarie Preserve State Park; Lake Okeechobee (Jaycee Park).

All worth a visit.

Try the Florida sub-forum for further information on specific sites.

Have a good trip.

Edit: Meant to say that through a Google search you can download & print off the relevant sections of "The Great Florida Birding Trail" which gives you specific site information & locations.

I was there in December last year and had a good time ...but didn't see Burrowing Owls at this locality (did at the coast further south though) - as an idea of some of the sites that forest twitcher mentions, here is a link to my trip report - covers the Kissimmee area and other Florida localities.

If you are staying in Kissimmee Try Lake Toho just off the 192 turn down Main Street, Kissimmee then take your 4th left I think they run touristy airboat trips deep into the lake. I had breeding snail kite in the reedsj from the boat, Ospreys always present. Monk Parakeet in the kids. Play area. Even had Limpkin early morning there and American purple Galinules. Good range of duck species and regular sighting of Bald Eagle Red shouldered hawk red winged blackbird Palm warbler. Merit island is a must in winter about 1/12 hours east on the airport road (beeline)
Then of course Ding darling wildlife refuge on Sanbel Island a Mecca for birders and photographers.
Hope this helps
John
