This May I'll be taking a trip from The Netherlands to Charlottesville, VA to visit a friend. I will be be flying to Washington D.C. and am planning to rent a car there. I'm planning to do 2-3 days of birding before meeting my friend.
What would be some worthwile hotspots/national parks to visit in the general area between D.C. and Charlottesville that are rich in birds? And what would be a convienently located town to stay the nights?
I would like to limit my time spend in the car. Also, I have never been biring in North America so there will no doubt be many lifers. I'm just looking to fill my time with interesting birding rather than collecting many specialties.
Thanks! I'd appreciate any help.
