LRGV Campgrounds (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Looking in to making a trip to the LRGV after Christmas this year. Any suggestions for good places with tent camping and/or cabins to stay at? I've looked at Bentsen SP because it's a good central location. I'm also considering spending a night or two in the Salineno area, any suggestions for that?

Thanks so much!

Falcon State Park and Falcon (Starr) County Park are very close to one another and offer good birding. They're close to Salineno, too.

Some of the area RV parks may have tent sites that aren't well-known. It might be worth asking. There's a whole row of RV parks on Bentsen Palm Drive, the main road to Bentsen State Park. There may still be primitive camping at Bentsen itself, but you'll have to hike in (not a great distance, but if you don't have a pack that will hold your camping equipment, quite a cumbersome walk).

Alamo Inn in Alamo has very reasonably priced accommodations, and Keith Hackland is a great source of information.

Enjoy your trip. The Rio Grande Valley Bird Festival starts this week, and it is often the case that birds found during the festival stick around for quite a while, even after Xmas.
