I know I can peruse eBird and festival websites but for anyone who has attended both, do you have any opinions, advice, preference, tidbits,... etc.? Thanks-in-advance!

I took both tours, rather late in the breeding season last June. On the tour out of Mio, the leader was very considerate of my photography interest and stayed with me after all the other tour participants had put a check on their life lists and taken off. I was very thankful, since after about 20 more minutes of waiting around we had a male perch low in a Jack Pine about 10 meters away. Not the greatest photograph but well worth the experience. I suspect that opportunities are much better earlier in the breeding season, though I don't have firsthand experience

I know you’re asking for both, but we’ve done cape may. Like anything, it can get expensive. What we sometimes do, is look at the websites of the tours, pick some to do with guides and some to do on our own. But honestly, cape may is the type of place where you could rent a car and do the hotspots on your own. The festival is fun if you like the vendor and convention learning opportunities etc. lately we’ve gone a week before the festival and enjoyed it more on our own to beat the crowds

Thanks for comments ;-)
Did/do you stay in Cape May (town) or any recommendations on lodging?
We'd be in our own car, so transpo not a problem...
