Hi
Anyone using either of these tripods with an APO77? Just wondered how they get on. Also would the 700rc2 head be ok or to light-weight. Ive been using a 55 NAT with 128 and was hoping to lose some weight.

I have the 055 MFV which I use with a Swaro ATS HD80 on a 701RC2. It's an excellent set up, not too lightweight. I'm 6'6" tall too, so when necessary I need the column up a bit and the shake's not too bad except in a force 6 onshore breeze!

Sounds ok, cheers. Did you get the spiked feet with the tripod? I did with the NAT55 but i'm not sure if they come free now. Anything to get a few quid more out of the birder.

Yes, I bought them ... and have never used them!

One thing that confused me was the column clamp - although the 55MFV is a carbon fibre tripod the centre column isn't, so it's the 349, not the 349c, that you need.

Probably going to invest in the Opticron gs 665 ed angled - would appreciate advice on a decent tripod/head combination. As a complete novice, compiling a shortlist of scopes to try out at Birdfair has been reasonably straightforward - sorting out a similar list of tripods/heads is proving more of a problem. My budget is around £150.

Depends whether or not your going to get involved with photography or not - using Mangrotto, sorry, Manfrotto, as a benchmarch imo the best birdwatching combination currently available at your budget will be the 190 V (view) legs with a 128rc2 fluid head.........I have a 700rc2 and its not as sturdy and smooth as the 128.

Slik still offer the D3 which is light, strong and a favourite with Mr Goodie whilst the Velbon 600 Sherpa is great value.

i'm using 190NAT3 with 701RC2 head, pretty satisfied at this moment with my Nikon ED82 angled body.

trying to buy the 055MFV, unfortunately no stock at this moment in malaysia ...
