Hi

“Three begging young and one or two adult Marsh Owls at Oued Loukkos, Larache, at the far side opposite the dam on 8 June (A.B. van den Berg in Go-south.org)”.

The species is very rare and is still breeding mainly in three area: Merja Zerga, Lower Loukkos and lower Tahadart estuary (south of Tangier), though the records from the last 2 sites becoming rarer recently.

I saw Marsh Owl twice in Lower Loukkos, once in late May 2006 and another in the one winter. Attached is a record picture of the one bird (I am afraid no one can recognise the bird in this poor picture, sorry).

regards,

I recall looking when we visited there, but without success, glad there are still some there.

Here's one I saw at Merdja Zerga last year:

Hi,

Today at dusk (18:19 local time) on our way to the marshes we saw one Marsh Owl in lower Loukkos, exactly where the road to the marshes and the river bifurcate. It’s good they are still around B :)
