Sailing through the Straits of Gibraltar last week a Booted Eagle nearly ended up on board. It was crossing over from Morocco and got blown towards the top of the our ship, the Arcadia. It attempted land to but eventually flew off on its onward journey to Gibraltar. Two more were seen further out to sea heading towards Europe. A Gibraltar bird observation group noted four on the same day.
Sailing between Cadiz and Valencia we were joined by three groups of Turtle Dove comprising of one two and three birds, on different days. They spent their time flying around the ship, landing on board then flying off again.
Several migrating Barn Swallow were seen close to the ship, probably taking time out to rest on board, including one battling high winds and rough seas between Northern Africa and Spain. I wonder if it eventually made the crossing alive.
