Stated field is 136m/1000m (7.8*) not 166m. I have been lucky with the full size MK Standard series (7x35 & 10x50). My Ebay purchases have arrived with good collimation. I believe the construction of the series is robust.

That is the 8x40 Minolta MK Standard.
Actual measured field 9.4 degrees.
The top plate on the central axle in the photo is missing.

I like the 7x35 11.05 degree measured field.
8x40 9.4 degree field.
10x50 7.8 degree field of which 7.65 degrees is easily seen.
But no glasses worn.

Some people cannot see the whole field even with no glasses, because most EWA binoculars have short eye relief.

The Bresser SWA 7x32 has a 13 degree field, also larger sizes 92 degree simple AFOVs.
Mirror prism construction.
Awful images for me.
Also several other trade names, same binoculars.

There is a super rare Russian binocular, 8x30 I think, with a 13 degree field.

Minolta MK Standard 8x40 9.5*

The Minolta MK Standard 8x40 may not have a close near focus distance. I shall estimate the distance for my 8x40 tomorrow when it is light. My garden is a measured 13 yards (12 metres) long. My memory is that the distance is shorter than the length of the garden, but it could be further than half the length. Another poster in the past complained of the long near focus distance. I shall try to locate his post for you. The poster described how he modified his 8x40 to reduce the distance. But it was as I recall a matter of a 'fix', ie adjusting the focussing mechanism in a way that, probably for conservative mechanical reasons, the original designer had declined to pursue.

I have a 8x40 standard that is like new with the box and papers that the wife picked up for me at a estate sale shop she haunts....also got one of Minoltas little auto focus bins they made in the time frame....think she paid $50 for the pair of them a couple years ago....

thanks for the information! this minolta published by the seller as 10x50 but it is realy 8x40 [no label on front to see the magnification].. I almost place an order THANKS!

I'm glad you're happy with the information that you've received.

Re the diversion to treat the specification of the Minolta MK Standard 8x40 (not 10x50!), some people who have read your thread might like me to give further for completeness' sake the close focus distance for my example that I roughly estimated this morning.

The close focus distance is 9.5 yards (8.5 metres)*.

It's a shame that, without Christophe17's modification, for most people the distance will be too long for general birdwatching use.

The binocular is otherwise very good, except for the usual 'extra wide angle' provisos that;
* It is bulky
* It is a little on the heavy side
* Eye relief, should you wish to see the whole field without strain, is near to zero (ie the binocular is not, I suspect, for spectacle users).

Stephen

* Christophe17 measured 10 metres for his Minolta MK Standard 8x40
