For many years I have watched the birds and other wildlife that either visit or fly over my garden for which I get immense pleasure. Am sure I have posted the sightings on here before as well as posting them on my counties forum. Today I was up much earlier than usual at 10am, usual time I rise is anywhere up to 2pm, reason being I stay up very late.

Thought today because I had a most enjoyable four hours watching I'd post it on here. Sightings as follows:
Male Blackcap seen four separate times on hawthorn and cherry trees (last time I had one in garden was 2010)
Goldfinch - 9
House Sparrow - 2 (usually get three dozen every day but always in front garden)
Great Tit - 3
Blue Tit - 8
Coal Tit - 2
Blackbird - 8
Wood Pigeon
Chaffinch - 6
Crow - 4 over
Robin
Greenfinch - 3
Sparrowhawk
Starling - 2
Feral Pigeon - 4
Common Gull over
Cormorant over ( new garden tick)
Collared Dove
Magpie - 2
Jackdaw - 18 over.

My back garden is only small but has twelve assorted trees and at least two dozen shrubs with no grass. Sometimes get squirrel, frog, toad and fox visit. Up to three months ago had three hedgehogs staying in back garden each had its own den but of late not seen. My front garden is also small but has three trees and a few shrubs and again no grass. I call my gardens "my nature reserve"

I usedto do it our previous house & for a few years at this one but stopped doing it ages ago.

Yes I have been member of GBW about 25 years, for the first 15 years I filled the forms in then decided to just pay yearly subs and not fill them in, I also did a WeBS close by for ten years until my health got worse. Did BBS and Goose and Swan surveys twenty years ago. For many years put my sightings on Birdtrack until I got fed up of duplicating my sightings (typing same sightings on Lincs Bird Club and Birdtrack each time I went out) so for past fifteen years or so put all sightings be it from house or when I go o birding on to LBC forum under "My Garden" and really enjoy doing it, only downside is considering how many members there is only about 1% view them! So thought I'd try out on here again. Am not into Twitter etc. Have been a member of Birdforum since 2004 I think, it only had about 10k members now its 100k+.

I live in North Lincs.

Today the male Blackcap returned at 09:25 but saw it only once, quite misty so wasn't able to pick it out amongst all the trees. Managed to spot a Dunnock in the front garden hedge, not seen one awhile. Had similar numbers of what I saw yesterday but some increased such as the Goldfinch and Greenfinch. Had the local population of 38 Feral Pigeons on roof but only 5 came in back garden. No Sprawk or Cormorant today but all the birds were very flighty so the raptor may have been visiting. The House Sparrows returned with upwards of two dozen in front garden mainly as they have lots of cover.

What I didn't say in my first post is that I don't live in the countryside but on the edge of a large housing estate but close to open fields and a country park.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Will be putting out some apples I had delivered tonight so the Blackcap can have them, knowing the last one that visited many years ago enjoyed my apples.

These misty and dark days not easy spotting owt in all my trees, but did best I could. No sign of Blackcap and started watching at 09:00 till dusk with breaks in between of course and put some apples out for it in afternoon. Had 13 species today including 37 Goldfinch which beats previous record by seven set many years ago! Maybe reason that not as many birds today was someones cat was stalking for best part of two hours despite me telling it to "go away" anyway tomorrow's a new day, who knows what may pop up.

Update: This week its manic in both back and front gardens with most days getting as many as 126 birds daily. This week had up to 17 species most days. Highlight of week was yesterday, at 08:40 had a garden tick with a single Redwing it landed on the conifer and then after a while joined the Blackbirds feeding on Rowan berries, didn't see it rest of day, hope it returns with its pals. Another record yesterday was the number of Blackbirds, before yesterday had nine in one day, but that was easily broken with fifteen luckily they were on both the Rowan, Hawthorns and Cherry but still hard to count.

Bit off it today so not spending all day watching. First bird I saw when drawing curtains was a Coal Tit, love these.
