New to Dallas - Looking for Birding Buddy! (1 Viewer)

Hello fellow birders:)

I've just moved to Dallas for the summer from Toronto, and am so excited to see so many species that I don't get at home!

I'm looking for someone (or many people) who could show me a few great birding spots in and around Dallas, to trade birding stories with, and of course to go bird watching with. I don't care if you're amateur or pro, we will have fun either way.

Message me or reply to this thread if you're interested.

Cheers,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to Bird Forum and Dallas! I am in Arlington, Tx. I would suggest that you also post on both the Dallas Audubon and the Ft Worth Audubon sites. Summer can be rough around here in terms of heat, birding early in the morning is best. There are quite a few people who don't actively bird during the summer here. In a couple of weeks we should have shorebirds start coming through, so you should be able to start getting some good birds for Texas, assuming that we get some good mud flats some where around here!

Where in Dallas are you? There are some areas in Dallas and nearby cities, like Arlington, Irving, Plano & Frisco, that may be good places to meet & bird. Depends on your proximity to them. Once the cooler weather sets in, the Ft Worth Audubon will start having field trips in Sept & those would be a good way to meet people and get to know the area. Dallas Audubon doesn't have much going in the way of field trips until they get a field trip coordinator again.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I live near the Park Cities, near Inwood and Lovers Lane. Not too many birding spots around here lol.
I've heard the Katy Trail is good for inside the city, and I'm probably going to visit the Trinity Audubon Center next weekend.
I don't blame Texans for not birding during the summer...the heat turns this place into a frying pan!
If anyone's down for a morning birding jaunt, let me know!
ps-just saw a beautiful scissortail flycatcher this morning, and it made my day!
