Nikon fit sigma 170-500mm-usable with a DSLR? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,
I bought a sigma 170-500mm lens second-hand in 2003 which I used with a Nikon film SLR, after a couple of years, however, I switched to digiscoping and this lens has remained in my mothers attic ever since.
What I would like to know is whether this lens would be usable with a Nikon DSLR? I'm afraid, without having the lens to hand (it's about 600 miles away!) I cant give any more details but I'm hoping someone will be able to work out what model it is.
Apologies for the vagueness,
Alex

It will depend on whether it has its own AF motor ro which bodies it'll work with, if it has a motor it'll work with any DSLR if not there are a few that dont have the capability to drive a lens, these tend to be the entry level bodies. apart from that as Nikon retain the same mount metering should be fine.

A similar question came up a couple of days ago (see the general section of the photo stuff).
The Sigma 170-500 should work on Nikon DSLR with the following exception. On entry level bodies (i.e. D40, D60, D3000, D5000 etc.) it will not autofocus as neither lens nor these bodies have AF motors. Other bodies (D50, D70, D80, D90, D200, D300 .....) are able to drive the AF, and there should be no principal functional limitations.

Thanks for your help, that's just what I wanted to know, I'm visiting my mum later in the month so I'll have to dig it out of the attic and decide what to do with it.
Cheers,
Alex
