NL Pure objective cover design (1 Viewer)

Perhaps a known weak link with the NL Pures, but I had my new set of 8x42 out birding yesterday for a couple hours…on my return on the same trail I just happened to look down to see an objective cap on the ground, I didn’t realize it was missing from my binoculars but sure enough it was mine :), broke right off at the hinge. Contacted Swarovski USA via email and next day they had a new set on their way to me. Pretty great service. Not sure if this is a common occurrence with the NL Pure’s objective caps but it does seem like a weak link.

Unfortunately that is one of the known problems, next to the armor problems and failing field pro connectors. They never last me more than a few days in the field. I’ve cut off the connection strap and remove them completely when birding. That works for me.

Was indeed an often reported thing in early days of NLs. Have thought it was now in the rear view mirror, Swaro having made design change cited here as I recall. Curious, is this bino new, recent, production?

They are a new pair from the beginning of this year; recent production with the new armor.

Use this kind of caps for several years now. (EL and NL Pure) Never had any problem with them. Nor does my birding mate.
That’s interesting, you must be among the very few people without problems with them. Good for you. Almost all the people I meet in the field and at twitches have the objective covers removed from their Swarovski’s because of them breaking off. That’s literally hundreds of birders. The only time I see these attached is when they are kinda new. And even then most of the time only one cover is there. What would’ve happened to the other one?

This is a well known Swaro problem, along with the armour.
Yet another re-invention of the wheel by Swaro. Completely unnecesary and no doubt more costly to produce !!

Take a look at Zeiss FL covers.... perfect simplicity and they last.

Zeiss to a degree, did a 'Swarovski' when they introduced the HT model with the objective covers fitting inside the barrels...(same as the Conquest model).... It's ok... but it's an unnecessary change and a step back from the FLs.
Gotta justify that price hike somehow.

Just leave well alone and deliver quality..... it's not difficult !!

Or are you one of the very few people whose covers always break after a few days? I do not believe the quality of my covers are any different than the quality of yours...
Lot of birders don't use objective covers, has nothing to do with quality issues. They just don't like them. It's mainly a choice in usage...

They do seem to shoot themselves in the foot a bit recently what with one thing and another.

The Noctivid covers fit inside the barrels and work very well. I prefer them to covers around the outside. Unfortunately in their case the plastic ring around the barrel can crack over time but when this happened to one of mine Leica sent me a replacement straight away and no problems since.

Do you really want to deny this is a common problem? There are countless topics about this on this forum alone.

I guess some people don’t want to hear anything negative about “their” brand.
"Their brand ???" That's really a very immature response...
By the way, most complaints about Swarovski are on this forum alone and mostly by the same people, over and over again.
(maybe give Google a try for more objective reviews?)
Well, guess you joined the club! Have fun, I rather go birding en enjoy my Bino's (whatever brand they may be)

I had similar problem with the objective lens covers on my NL 10X32 & 10X52...lens covers coming off too easily. A tiny drop of super glue on a toothpick smeared at the hinge does the trick. Now it's rock solid.

It’s a known thing, back when I first had my pures and they still the covers someone tried them out and said that most people just remove them anyway because they were stuck with one attached and one lost. Mine went after about 6 months I think.

Still like the binoculars and brand a lot. And I guess some people might luck out and not encounter it but yes it’s pretty close to inevitable

It’s merely my observation. It’s always the same people denying or downplaying various problems with Swarovskis. I’d rather see you debunk it with facts. Fact is lots of different people on this forum had that problem.

Can’t blame people to come to this forum with questions and complaints. This is a highly specialized forum about optics where there is a lot of knowledge. No need to go to Google for “objective” reviews.

As the OP that kicked this thread off, I didn’t intend to stir up all these emotions and divisiveness; I’m 100% happy with my NL Pures overall as well as Swarovski USA’s fast response on the customer service end to replace the covers. They are sending me a new pair (rather than just the single replacement) so I’ll have backup if needed. If one breaks or tears again, it’s just a simple email off to their CS for replacements. Pretty harmless.
