Johann Jakob von Kaup (1803—1873) was a German zoologist, ornithologist and palaeontologist who was the Director of the Grand Duke's natural history 'cabinet' in Darmstadt. He wrote Classification der Säugethiere und Vögel (1844). An amphibian is named after him.

He is Johann Jacob Michael Kaup in the christening records for two of his children, including the son whose name was August Carl Otto Kaup.

He was also called "T. T." (in the same journal) here.

Your two links are to two parts of the same paper. The first part starts with a prefatory note (by Jardine?), which explains that this "Monograph of the Falconidae", by Dr. "T. T." Kaup, is a translated and improved version of a work the author had published in 1847 in Isis. The original is fairly easy to trace: it was titled "Monographien der Genera der Falconidae" and was authored by J. J. Kaup.

Also noteworthy :

• On p. 72-5 of this first part, "T. T." Kaup complained about a "recent renowned anatomist" there called "T. Müller", who he presented as having asked "Where is a fish swimming which sets not at nought all our systems ?" In 1877, J. J. Kaup attributed the same quote, in German, "Wo mag wohl der Fisch schwimmen, der alle unsere Systeme zu Schanden macht !" to Johannes Müller.
• On p. 56 of the second part, the two species placed in the genus Ieracidea are listed as "T." berigora and "T." novae zeelandiae.

All in all, what this suggests to me, is that the British editors and/or typographers who had to deal with his manuscripts were prone to easily misread his J's () and I's () (which were essentially indistinguishable from one another) as T.

As I noted above, his son was August Carl Otto, thus he was certainly not a "T. T."
