As an embarrassingly amateur birder, I have been trying to increase my skills at bird identification. I know many people have issues with Merlin, and yes I know it does make a few mistakes now and again, but it has been a wonderful tool for me. I also must say I'm very impressed with the number of times I have seen random groups of kids out on hikes, using the app. It's bringing in a lot of kids to the concept of birding. So on with my question. I've been looking for a reasonably cheap parabolic microphone to plug into my iPhone. I can sit outside in my backyard and Merlin can quickly list off 20 or 30 birds, but that does not mean I can see them. A much more directional microphone would help me isolate the bird I'm looking at or trying to find. I don't need a fancy one with all sorts of bells and whistles, I just want one to improve the omnidirectional mic on the iPhone. Any ideas of make and model, or a source for such things?
