Dundee Birding....(target 150 in 2024).
While watching migrants passing over Riverside Nature Park, Dundee this morning I spotted a Pipit which dropped in very close to where I was standing, into longer grass. As I had read that Olive Backed Pipits like longer grass, I went to investigate, and inadvertantly flushed the bird without seeing it on the ground. I managed to grab a few photos as it flew away from me - most of which were well out of focus, but there were 3 that were reasonably decent. I also had a sound recorder running which I think managed to catch the call (video below). Low early morning sun has affected the colours (which I've tried to compensate for in the best photo). As far as I can see, the bird looks quite unmarked on the back, unlike Tree Pipit (which the call sounded like to my ears - but apparently the calls of both are very difficult to separate). Opinions welcome.
Zoomed in photos also on Twitter -
Video of call (I think). Probably need to turn up volume to hear properly - Pipit call
EDIT : Consensus elsewhere seems to be leaning towards Tree Pipit.
