Possible Yellowhammer in Scotland. (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

First time posting so go easy ;).
I regularly feed the birds in my garden in West Lothian in Scotland and like to keep an eye out for any types of bird i have not seen before.
This morning i have spent the last couple of hours watching what i believe is a Yellowhammer. I have been through numerous bird identifiers and am certain this is correct.
Could anyone tell me if this is particularly unusual for my location, or a vistor we can expect to see from time to time.

thanks

Hi there,

Welcome to Birdforum. Yellowhammers are not uncommon in the Lothians but are a good bird to get on your feeders. I have them within a few hundred metres of my garden but have never seen them in the garden.

David

Thanks for the info David, It has been great to see such a bright and colourful visitor this morning. I hope he stays around.
Made my day.

Hi yhthibby and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

If you could manage to get a picture (even a poor one) it may help to confirm your thoughts. It's just possible it may be an escaped pet I suppose.

All things Scottish can be found here. Also, keep an eye on threads titled something like Scottish Bashes; we usually have one or two meets each year and they're all great fun. You can read all about the last one in this thread. You'd be most welcome to join us on another if you can manage.
