Robert Tomo spots a Turkey Vulture
Yesterday, Robert Tomo walked outside to find a turkey vulture standing on his lawn.
This is the first time Robert has ever seen one. Turkey vultures are always looking for roadkill or other dead animals. Turkey vultures mostly feeds on fresh carrion, but will occasionally eat decaying vegetable matter, insects, or live fish. Unlike most birds, it has a well-developed sense of smell. Robert said they can live for about 15 years. There are nearly twenty million turkey vultures in the world, so Robert was surprised that he never saw one before. Some people falsely believe that the turkey vulture carries diseases. Robert Tomo said the turkey vulture’s head does not have feathers to prevent rotting meat from sticking to it. It is a strange but interesting bird.
