Screeching call over the house at night (UK, 30/07/2021, 11:45pm). (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I heard this screeching call sound a few times over my house this evening. I live on a quiet road which backs onto a large meadow reserve around 50m down the road.

Can anybody identify what was likely creating the sound?

Barn Owl, very vocal here at the moment as this years young have dispersed and parents seeing them off. Used to be called screech Owl many years ago; also quite ghostly the first time you hear one.

Amazing! Did think that it could be a barn owl but didn't want to get too excited as it has been a couple of years since I've seen them here! They used to be regular breeders nearby so hopefully that is a sign that they may be back 🙏
