Several not completely solved Taylors (1 Viewer)

Taphrospilus

Well-known member
Chalcothraupis ruficervix taylori (Taczanowski & von Berlepsch, 1885) OD here

Aithurus taylori Rothschild, 1894 OD here
There latter were collected by mr. C. B. Taylor in one locatlity in the district of St. Andrew, to the north of Kingston, Jamaica, where he frequently met with this ruby-throated form.
Melopyrrha nigra taylori Hartert, E, 1896 OD here
A fine series was collected on Grand Cayman by Mr. C. B. Taylor of Jamaica, to whom I dedicate this species.

Chlorophoneus olivaceus taylori J. A. Roberts, 1914 OD here
In examining the specimens of C. olivaceus recorded by C. H. Taylor from Indhlovudwalile, eastern Transvaal...

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims on them:

Claude H. Taylor (DNF) was a South African naturalist. e wrote an article entitled 'Notes on a collection of birds made in the Amsterdam District upon the Transvaal-Swazieland Border' (1907).

The Key to Scientific Names
Anthony Taylor (fl. 1884) collector in Ecuador (subsp. Tangara ruficervix).
Charles B. Taylor (fl. 1896) collector in Jamaica and Cayman Is. (Pyrrhulagra, syn. Trochilus polytmus).
Claude H. Taylor (fl. 1914) South African naturalist, collector (syn. Chlorophoneus olivaceus).

So a couple of middle names and life dates are missing.

P.S. So some old friends of us here and here we can see in context with Anthony Taylor. It's a small world.

Charles Bowerbank Taylor
Birth: 10 June 1866 Kingston, Jamaica
Death: 31 March 1926 Gap nr Sadsbury, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States

His unexpected marriage to an American Quaker woman in New York (Mabel Wigam Hopkins) and his move to Gap, Pennsylvania was discovered through an examination of the annual list of Fellows of the Entomological Society.

Claude H. Taylor (fl. 1914)

Claude H. Taylor became a member of the South African Ornithologists' Union in 1905, a year after its formation. He contributed a paper to its Journal (1907, Vol. 3(1), pp. 12-41) entitled "Notes on a collection of birds made in the Amsterdam district upon the Transvaal-Swaziland border between the months of June and October, 1906". He was assisted in his collecting by J.A.S. Bucknill*. Taylor was still a member of the Union by 1909, when his address was given as Grassridge, P.O. Bankop [Bankkop], Ermelo. The farm Grassridge is roughly midway between Ermelo and Amsterdam.
Taylor imported merino sheep from Australia during 1907-1910, at which time his address was given as Amersfoort (between Ermelo and Volksrust). He is presumably the same person as C.H. Taylor who wrote "Notes on Aberdeen-Angus cattle" in the Transvaal Agricultural Journal (October 1910, Vol. 9, p. 22). By 1948 he resided in Witbank, Transvaal.

List of sources:
Journal of the South African Ornithologists' Union, 1907, Vol. 3, paper by Taylor; 1909, Vol. 5(3), list of members.

I have spent a great deal of energy over the years trying to find "Anthony Taylor". None of the Sztolcman collections in MIZ has Taylor as a collector. I believe he was Nadir Antonio Rafael TAYLOR VALDEZ de VELASCO (1836-?). Taylor was the son of an American (Mainer) mariner who settled in Peru. Stolzmann and Fraser would have needed a translator and local guide and I believe Antonio Taylor was the man they used.
