Considering going to Sicily for a spring holiday next year. Whilst I accept this wont be as productive as the far eastern and western ends of the Med, is much likely to turn up in late April ? Are there good and bad parts of the island to stay from a birding point of view ? I can find very few trip reports - which can't be a good sign !!

thanks
Tony

Sorry macrourus can't find the other post you referred to

Just wondering if you can suggest any good places to go to see shrikes, beeaters, hoopoes, golden oriole, that sort of thing as I'm in Sicily next week. The opus section mentions the straits of Messina and San Vito but nowhere else. My wife is happy to do some birdwatching .....but not very much and looks like it will be 38 degrees!

We are staying at Taormina but fly to palermo so at least 2 times we have to drive from one end of the island to the other. Is there a good place near Taormina to watch the raptors ?

thank you

Tony

I'm going to Sicily tomorrow. to the north coast.
Did you have much luck Tony?
Any suggestions?

Regards,

Padraig

sorry Padraig - only just seen this ! Hope you enjoyed Sicily. I saw next to nothing as the temperature was 35-40 degrees and birding was always going to be a secondary objective on this holiday.

Just back from good sightseeing holiday in Sicily, clocking up 110 bird species along the way. Have posted a report in the trip reports section.
