Comments please on whether the attached is a Common Lark or a Meadow pipit. The image was taken in May 09 in the UK.

I think meadow pipit. Bill seems too long for skylark, also bold streaking on flanks and general build, but the face pattern is odd.

I'd say Meadow Pipit. Sky Lark has a different shaped bill and less streaking on the flanks and a straighter hind claw. This bird has what looks like a crest but think it's a breeze blowing feathers up
 
defo meadow pipit.flank streaking,dark centred greater coverts,long curved hind claw,mantle pattern,brown central tail,short primary projection,narrow bill.the crest is just miss placed feathers,super and eye-ring more pronounced due to light.
