Hi, I have quite a situation. While cleaning my garden I found a small plant with leaves attached to each other and there was some soft white stuff on it. I thought of it as fungus and removed the leaves from the plant. Then I found it was a sparrow nest and it had 3 eggs. I didn't know what to do so I glued the leaves to the plant again.

I saw the mother staying in her nest that night. From the next day onwards she didn't visit her nest. That leaves are starting to wither. The eggs are still there. Did she abandoned her eggs? Is it because the leaves are drying up? Or is it because she is afraid of me seeing her nest. ( I kinda looked into her nest to check on it without realising she is inside🙂) Will she come back??. If not, what to do with the eggs.

Hi Birdie and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I should just leave everything quiet and don't be tempted to look back at the nest again. She'll then either be content that all is safe or she won't. If she has deserted the nest I'm afraid there really is little you can do. To raise chicks from the egg stage is an extremely skilled job and even then there is no guarantee that any of them will survive to fledging.

If you know of a wildlife rescue centre near you, maybe they will be prepared to try.

But please don't beat yourself up about this, it is a mistake that any one of use could make, and many probably have. It was an accident.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see around you.

Thank you for your reply and for your warm welcome. Thank you for your concern too. I am really glad someone understood me. I was so guilt ridden about this incident. I hope this doesn't happen in the future.

There doesn't seem to be any wildlife rescue centre near me. Not that I heard of any. I'll try to find any place that can take care of these eggs.

There is one more sparrow nest in my yard which is safe and sound. Their mother is visiting them every night. I really hope those eggs stay healthy and hatch soon. I'll update once they hatch. Once again thank you so much😀
