Sparrow Terrace nest box (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm tempted to get one of those sparrow terrace boxes, but cannot put it high on the house as I already have reguarly used small bird nest boxes there.

Would they still use them if they were on a fence about 6-8ft high? And has anybody had any success with them?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob,

The one thing I'd advise is to be very careful not to put too many too closely together or you risk upsetting them all. The Sparrows (even though you're putting a terrace up) just might try to interfere with the others as they're always on the look out for another good nesting site.

Also, to put them on a fence could be a bit risky in high winds. I've not tried a terrace as our Sparrows nest under the roof tiles, but I've heard of some success with them. If you live in a mansion or very large house then space won't be a problem, but beware otherwise. Depending which wall your other boxes are on e.g East, do you have the other free e.g. North? Bearing in mind that it's only N & E that are advocated due to sun and rain being a problem with S or W.

Think about it all before acting Rob and you may well come up with a safer bet than the fence and 8' or above would be much better.

Good luck,

Sue.
