This morning there was a Sparrowhawk on my fence, it had caught a sparrow and plucked it and then ate it.
The hawk eventually flew off after it had eaten the sparrow!. My Mum said that she had never seen anything like that here and she has lived in this house for 52 years.!

Are you feeding the birds in your garden, Izzy - perhaps more than you did?
Sparrowhawks are also becoming more common in semi-urban areas.

I know it's not very nice seeing it kill and eat another bird, but the hawk needs to find food for herself and her chicks in the breeding season.

We have one which regularly floats across our garden, and, yes, she has caught and killed other birds.

Hi all, about 20yrs ago I was off work sick and some colleagues came round to see me they were none birders and as we sat in the lounge overlooking the patio and bird table a sprawk landed on the patio and snatched a sparrow, about four feet from where we sat.Bloody hell one shouts there`s an eagle on the patio. It didn´t stay long but flew on to fence and plucked and had his dinner, wonderful site but no camera handy.
