Hello all, relatively new on here.

I wondered if anyone could advise on any decent patches around SW London.

I tend to drive over to London Wetlands but in the London Traffic it can take an age getting there at the weekend.

I wondered if anyone new of any other spots perhaps heading out towards/ past Croydon way (I am around Streatham/ Balham/ Brixton) so thats and easy direction to head in...

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers

Hi Mickster

There's a few London sites listed in Opus HERE, from there you could also try looking at articles for sites in Kent/Surrey.

Hope these help, until someone local comes in.

Indeed! I only live a few miles north of the London Wetlands Centre myself and the public transport links (at least as far as Hammersmith) are pretty good, but Barnes is still a pain to get to.

I assume that you have also tried to other obvious locations out that way, such as
- Longsdale Road Reservoir

- Richmond Park
http://londonbirders.wikia.com/wiki/Richmond_Park
- Wimbledon Common
etc.

you might find something to fit the bill on this list of locations

I live in Putney so I've got the Wetlands just around the corner, but I love Lonsdale Road Reservoir (aka Leg o' Mutton), Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park too. I also sometimes get the tram from Wimbledon down to Morden Hall Park (Phipps Bridge tram stop). It's small, but I've always found it good for birding. I've also heard good things about Sydenham Hill Wood. Cemeteries are also worth considering - I've seen plenty of good birdlife in West Norwood, Hammersmith and Putney Vale cemeteries.
