Mark, if it was found in Seattle it can only be a Western Painted Turtle (Chrysemis picta belli). Judging just by the photo I would have guessed Chicken Turtle (Deirochelys reticularia), but that's an Eastern species.

Many Thanks, it was in seattle on the banks of lake washington and there were large numbers of them
