Yo all, out birding this afternoon and came across the well screened cage shown in pics. What is it for! and is the pheasant just unlucky to have gotten itself in there or is it the bait?

Thanks Jonathan wonder why its been set at beginning of season?

Season

Don't know Stewart - usually they're used to catch up pheasant after the shooting season's finished, the hens are then put into laying pens. There's a variety of reasons why someone might want a live pheasant though - dog training, replacement for aviary bird, etc. Alternatively, it may not be a keeper that's set the trap - maybe someone fancies roast pheasant! Classic spot to set such a trap as pheasant often travel along the base of walls.
