Tulip Trees (Yellow Poplars) (3 Viewers)

Thanks to a little hail and strong winds, "This Week at Hilton Pond" the forest floor was littered with Tulip Tree flowers that are usually so high in the canopy we can barely see them with binoculars. The easier accessibility of these colorful "tulips from the treetops" gave us ample reason to talk about an important tree that once towered above all other species in the eastern hardwood forest--and a species that still provides nurture for squirrels and hummingbirds. To view our Tulip Tree photo essay for 11-30 April 2012, please visit http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek120411.html

While there don't forget to scroll down for an account of birds banded and recaptured during the period--and there were substantial numbers of both, including a new banding species for Hilton Pond. We include lots of miscellaneous nature notes and acknowledgement of recent supporters of our work.

Happy Nature Watching!
