Struggling with this wader. Doesn’t look like a redshank to me but who knows!

... with lots of rings above the tibio-tarsal joint - which I used to be told (many donkey's years ago) was a peculiar habit employed largely in the Netherlands?
Anyway, ID... Note distinctive appearance of small head with shortish slightly-downcurved bill and scaly upperparts.
 
I wondered if the flag could've turned itself inwards or been drastically foreshortened, though--granted--the letter looks nothing like an 'X'.
