Water snake from India (1 Viewer)

OK, this would be really a test.

Can you put a name of a snake which I seen twice in NW India in February? It was dark green in color and seemed to have darker spots on every scale. Both times it was resting curled on a dry branch overhanging water. Since it was the only type of snake which I seen in India, this must be very common species.

Hi. Sounds like Checkered Keelback (Xenochrophis piscator), a very common freshwater snake in India.The dark spots on every scale fits (checkered!) and the habit of resting on an overhanging branch is typical. Background colour is variable, brownish, greenish, yellowish to even orange. Sudhir.
