I’ll start with mine which is undoubtedly the Siskin, have birded throughout the England, Wales and Scotland and have never managed to get one- they seem to be pretty numerous but I just haven’t been extremely lucky.

i like these posts as even though i live in built up area next to a main road i get siskin most days on my feeders.........sorry

but mine is black stork missed everyone about 8 ive gone for! usually by minutes

I put feeders up, one of the reasons was for a Siskin but haven’t managed it yet- have had great spotted woodpeckers though.

In Britain I reckon the following are my most painful outstanding ones each in their own way:

Steller's Eider: dipped by being too late once, didn't go for the most recent as too difficult while still working;
Tengmalm's Owl: didn't go at least twice to Shetland though probably could just about have spared the leave;
Amur Falcon: drove past one because it was "just a Red-foot", dipped Cornish one twice;
Siberian Rubythroat: missed Dorset one as in Norfolk, couple of recent missed by a few days before/after Shetland trips.

Of the four, the one I think most likely to continue to evade me is Tengmalm's Owl.

Malaysian ****ing Rail ****ing Babbler. So much time, in so many places, over so many years. I may have a little cry now. First tried in a six month trip to SE Asia in 1993.

Brambling
In Hertfordshire close to where my family lives, they had erupted last year- my dad and brother had them in the double digits. When I came back for the holidays I managed to get a few as well.

I had loads of Brambling on my patch last year, but not one this year. Then again I didn't see Redpoll on my patch last year, but have had seven so far this year.

Well mine was Green-winged Teal dipped numerous times, but finally cracked it last year!!
Would say now it's Black Kite and Caspian Tern really should have both by now!!

Oh, makes sense
Yes, Steve is correct. Came close to getting one while in China a few years ago but dipped.

Have only been to Europe/UK twice. We will be in southern Holland this April, and hope to get a few recalcitrant species then.

Canada Goose. Just can't bring myself to try for the nearest one each year that tends to be near Preston. Also it's tough getting gen on exactly how often it's seen or how easy or hard it is cos no-one else is bothered about it 😁. See introduced ones every day of course, but I don't count them on my life list.
